Austin Area Beekeepers Association

Austin Area Beekeepers Association is the beekeeping community for Austin and Travis County, Texas and the surrounding area. You’ll find members at their regular meeting on the 3rd Monday, 6:00-8:00pm, at the Lamar Senior Activity Center, 2874 Shoal Crest Ave in central Austin. The group is deliberately broad: experienced beekeepers, wannabe beekeepers, and anyone interested in honeybees, bee products, or native pollinators is welcome to show up.

Monthly meetings mix expert presentations with open question time, so a first-year keeper puzzling over a struggling hive can get answers from people managing bees in the same Central Texas conditions — the same nectar flows, the same long summer dearth, the same swarmy springs. Members share hands-on know-how on hive inspections, pest and disease control, requeening, and pulling honey.

Beyond meetings, clubs like this help with equipment group-buys, honey extraction, and pointing the public toward local beekeepers for swarm calls. In the Austin area, swarm season generally runs March through June, and a club connection is often the fastest way to find a beekeeper willing to collect and relocate a swarm — each keeper sets their own terms. The association also runs an active Facebook group where members trade advice between meetings.
