Colorado County Beekeepers Association

Colorado County Beekeepers Association is the beekeeping community for Columbus and Colorado County, Texas and the surrounding area. You’ll find members at their regular meeting on the 2nd Thursday at 6:00pm at 316 Spring Street in Columbus, and locals can sign up through the club’s website to stay posted on upcoming events.

Colorado County’s mix of Colorado River bottomland, cattle pasture, and coastal-prairie edge between Houston and the Hill Country makes it productive bee country, and the association gives area keepers a place to compare notes on conditions that generic online advice never quite covers — when the local flow starts, what mite pressure looks like in a given summer, and how colonies are wintering. Members share hands-on know-how on hive inspections, pest and disease control, requeening, and pulling honey.

Beyond meetings, clubs like this help with equipment group-buys, honey extraction, and pointing the public toward local beekeepers for swarm calls. Swarm season in this part of Texas generally runs March through June, and calling the local club is usually the quickest route to a beekeeper who will collect and relocate bees — with terms set by that beekeeper, not the club.
