Alamo Area Beekeepers Association

Alamo Area Beekeepers Association (AABA) brings together new and experienced beekeepers around San Antonio and Bexar County, Texas. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the club states its primary purpose plainly: the care and welfare of the honey bee. Membership is open to commercial beekeepers, hobbyists, and bee enthusiasts alike, and you’ll find members at their regular meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of odd months, 6:30-8:30pm.

Education is the thread running through everything AABA does — the association is committed to educating both beekeepers and the public about honey bees, and it supports honey bee research. That community-facing work is backed by local partnerships, including the San Antonio Botanical Garden, Green Spaces Alliance of South Texas, and Honey Pathway UTSA.

Beyond meetings, clubs like this help with equipment group-buys, honey extraction, and pointing the public toward local beekeepers for swarm calls — a real service in South Texas, where swarm season generally runs March through June and homeowners often need someone who can relocate bees rather than exterminate them. Terms for any removal are set by the individual beekeeper. Members share hands-on know-how on hive inspections, pest and disease control, requeening, and pulling honey.
